Yale M. Shanfield, of Scranton, PA, died Monday evening, August 10th, at the Jewish Home of Eastern PA. He and his surviving wife, Hallett Bethel Shanfield, celebrated 60 years of marriage on June 7th.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Sydney and Miriam Glickfield Shanfield, was a graduate of Mahanoy City High School, PA. Yale was an army veteran having served in the Korean War. He attended Penn State University, later graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. He became a staple of ‘quality manufacturing’ in the United States’ Garment Industry as owner/manager of Mahanoy City Shirt Co., Mahanoy City, PA; Barnesboro Shirt Co., Barnesboro, PA; and Hallie Limited, Indiana, PA.
Also surviving is a son, David Lee Shanfield and wife Pamela, Hasting, PA; a daughter, Gemma S. Boyer and husband Jeffrey, Salisbury, MD; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister Velma Felder and husband Dr. Martin Felder, CA; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister Elaine Utan, wife of Attorney Edwin Utan, Scranton, PA. and a grandson, Sergeant Derek L. Shanfield, USMC (Afghanistan), of Hastings, PA
A private funeral service was held in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., Dunmore, PA conducted by Rabbi Daniel Swartz.
