Vito Iannielli, 84, Dunmore, died Sunday in Geisinger-Community Medical Center after being stricken ill at home. His wife was the former Maria Giovanna Romaniello who died in 2009.
Born November 21, 1931 in Potenza, Italy, Vito was the son of the late Michael and Patricia Carlucci Iannielli. He and his wife moved to the United States in 1968 where they raised their three sons. He worked for Haddon Craftsman in Scranton for 40 years as a book binder and also worked at Iannielli’s Banner Market in Dunmore for many years. Vito was a devout catholic and member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore. He was a former member of the San Cataldo Club, Lombardo Social Club, The Willow Club, and The Junior Order of Mechanics, all located in Dunmore.
Vito was a gentleman in every sense of the word. He never spoke ill of anyone. Those that met him liked him and those that visited his home spoke of the warm hospitality that they felt there. He was very generous to his family and friends, always going out of his way or above and beyond to help a person out in need.
Vito’s family would like to give thanks to Dr. Salvatore Lawrence for the care, love, and compassion always exhibited to their father over the years. They would also like to thank Father Alvaro for visiting with their Vito and bringing him communion weekly. They will never forgot your generosity.
Surviving are three sons, Joseph and his wife Landa Roque Iannielli, Dunmore, Michael Iannielli who was also his primary caregiver, Moosic, and Donato Iannielli, Moosic, three grandsons, Joseph Thomas, Matthew Vito, and Nondo Guiseppe Iannielli, all of Dunmore, two sisters, Maria and Carmella, Potenza, Italy, and a brother, Rocco, Potenza, Italy, several nieces and nephews in Italy.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
The funeral will be Friday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut Street, in Dunmore. Interment will follow in the Dunmore Cemetery.
