Rose M. Thornton, 84, a lifelong Dunmore Resident, died early Saturday morning at home.  She was preceded in death by her husband, the late James P. Thornton who died in 1994.


Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Joseph and Mamie Trotta Telesco, she was a graduate of Dunmore High School and was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish.  Rose enjoyed spending time with friends playing cards, going to dinner, the movies, and the casino, but most of all she loved the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. 


Rose is survived by sons James Thornton and wife Cathy of Elmira, NY, and Anthony Thornton and wife Donna of Mountaintop; her daughter Rosemary Thornton and husband Gerard Randolph of Warren, NJ; daughter-in-law Mary Washinko of Exton, PA; grandchildren Joseph Washinko of Conshohocken, PA; Alexis Mengel of Elmira, NY; Dalton Bennett of Mountaintop; Hannah Thornton of Mountaintop; Amelia Randolph and William Randolph, both of Warren, NJ; a great-granddaughter, Hailey Colon of Elmira, NY; as well as nieces and nephews.


She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Washinko, and son Joseph M. Washinko; sister Lucy Telesco Serapiglia; and brothers William, Patrick, Charles, and Daniel Telesco.


The funeral will be Wednesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith St., Dunmore.  Interment to follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Dunmore. 


Friends may call Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m.
