Robert M. Grady Sr., 84, a resident of Throop, went into the hands of the Lord Jesus Christ, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Mary M. Grady, who preceded him in death earlier this year and to whom he was married for 34 years.
Born in Hawley, son of the late James B. Grady and Agnes Keleher, he was a graduate of Hawley High School in 1952. A United States Navy veteran, he was a 1961 graduate of the University of Scranton with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He was employed at Harper Collins Publishers as a payroll manager. He was a member of St. Paul's Parish in Scranton.
He was a loving husband, father and uncle who would be willing to do anything for his family and friends. He was an avid golfer and a bowler who enjoyed both sports. He also was a huge Notre Dame football fan.
He is survived by his loving son, Robert Michael Grady Jr., to whom he devoted his entire life for 34 years. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Joann Arnone and Monica Miller, who both reside in Throop; his brothers-in-law, Stephen Arnone and wife, Sheila (Olyphant); Joseph Arnone and wife, Teresa (Lake Ariel). Also surviving are a sister, Mary White (Hawley); and a brother, Richard, who currently lives in Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Grady; his sister, Kay Franklin; and his brother, James Grady.
Also surviving are his nieces, Allison Arnone (Dunmore); Jennifer Phillips and husband, Mark (Dickson City); Laurie Stevens and husband, Chris (Duryea); along with his nephews, Christopher Arnone and wife, Karen (Georgia); Gregory Arnone, (Olyphant); J.T. Arnone (Waymart); James Arnone (Waymart); Joe Arnone and wife, Susanna (Honesdale); Josh Arnone and wife, Caitlin (West Chester); and Jake Arnone (Colorado); along with his nephew, Tommy White (North Carolina), Jacquelyn White (North Carolina) and Theresa White (Virginia).
The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore for its compassionate care during this difficult ordeal.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Parish, 1510 Penn Ave., Scranton. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore. The interment will take place at St. John's Cemetery in Throop.
