Rita Z. Craze, 71, of Clarks Summit, and previously of Swoyersville, died Friday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore after a long but private battle with cancer. Born Sept. 8, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Anna (Kadorick) Zurinski.An avid traveler and pet lover, Rita was employed by the Social Security Administration, both in Wilkes-Barre and in Baltimore, Md., until her retirement in 2006. She enjoyed road trips and cruises with her friends and companion, for as long as her health would allow. Rita doted on her two Siamese cats, and shared her love of wine, old movies and jazz music with anyone who would listen. Rita also took great pride in her Lithuanian heritage, joining the Knights of Lithuania and reading Draugas news.The family would like to thank the compassionate caregivers at Hospice of the Sacred Heart and the nursing staff at Regional Hospital of Scranton for their loving support. Surviving are her loving longtime companion, Dr. Charles Swisher, with whom she resided; a daughter, Leslie Hughes and husband, Brian, Brooklyn, N.Y.; a brother, James Zurinsky, East Springfield; nieces, nephews and cousins.She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Simon and David Zurinski; and a dear aunt, Mary Sapotasky.A visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m., with a memorial service immediately following at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore. A private burial at sea will occur off the coast of Fire Island, N.Y., at a later date.
