Philip Eugene Sottile

Dunmore, PA February 3, 1948 ~ March 5, 2013 Date of Service: March 8, 2013

Philip Eugene Sottile, 65, of Dunmore, died peacefully with his loving wife by his bedside, on Tuesday morning at Regional Hospital of Scranton after a courageous five-year battle with cancer. He and his wife, the former Frances DeSanto, would have celebrated 45 years of marriage this July 27.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Frank and Amelia Orazzi Sottile and was a graduate of Dunmore High School. He was employed at Flowserve as a machinist mechanic for over 35 years.

He was a member of the Bucktown Rod and Gun Club and loved the great outdoors including fishing, riding four-wheelers and trap shooting. He was a Steelers fan and enjoyed coaching the sports his children were involved in. Phil was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all.

He and his wife Fran were high school sweethearts and he was the love of her life and she of his. They loved spending all of their time together and taking their dogs, Amber and Mandy, to the park. He valued hard work, loyalty and above all else, family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.

The family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses and staff who cared for Phil during his lengthy illness.

Also surviving are his children, Philip and wife, Elaine, Jermyn; Kimberly Rowland and husband, Lance, New Milford; Kevin and wife, Tara, Waverly; Frank and wife, Jolane; Mark and wife, Elizabeth; and David, all of Dunmore; a brother, Richard, Olyphant; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Karen Sottile; aunts, uncles and other loved ones.

The funeral will be Friday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Taylor Ave., Scranton. Friends are asked to go directly to the church the morning of the Mass. Interment, private.

Friends may call Thursday at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the
American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
