Mercedes (Margie) Jean Bosco

New York City and Pennsylvania September 3, 1919 ~ October 22, 2018 Date of Service: October 27, 2018

Mercedes (Margie) Jean Bosco, 99, passed away Monday evening of natural causes in Scranton, never recovering from complications from a fall and broken hip. She was predeceased by her loving husband, the late William James Bosco, of New York City, whom she married on Nov. 22, 1940. They had 73 happy years together. Although she lived in New York City, she spent weekends in Pennsylvania for the last 35 years. She was also predeceased by her grandson, Richard Edward Bosco.

She was born in Dunmore on Sept. 3, 1919, into the huge Olivetti family. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Antonia Bergamino Olivetti.

Margie was always busy. She was a wonderful seamstress, making outfits for the family and knitting infant sweaters and hats for all the kiddies, as well as knitting a baby shawl for the first-born in each of her grandchildren's families. She passed down stories to the youngsters of happy memories of her life growing up in Dunmore with her amazing and large family living in the big house at the top of Homestead Street. She told of things like snowstorms, huckleberry picking, quilting with neighbors, gardening and how proud she was of her generous Mom and Dad, Ma and Pa Olivetti. She was a wonderful homemaker and cook, welcoming friends to our weekly Sunday dinner in New York City followed always by desert and a game or two of cards. She loved board games and crossword puzzles. She loved big family events and danced the night away with William.

She was used to big families, having two sisters, Vera Carr and Irene Masucci; and five brothers, Ercole, Ennio, Armando, Leo and Delvi Olivetti. All but Delvi, founder and owner of Dunmore Roofing, predeceased her.

Also surviving are a daughter, Barbara J. Bosco, New York City; sons, William J. Bosco Jr. and wife, Maureen, Spring Lake, N.J.; and James R. Bosco, New York City; grandchildren, Kelly Manzi and husband, Anthony; William III and wife, Jennifer; Michael and wife, Cara; and granddaughter-in-law, Traci Bosco-Myhal and husband, Thomas; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

When signing off on a phone call, she would always say, "Give my love to all," and she meant it.

She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with a service at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment, St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.

Friends may call Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to St. Joseph's Center, 2010 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509.
