Marilyn Barrett, 88, Dunmore, died Thursday night at Abington Manor in Clarks Summit.
Born in Dunmore, daughter of the late Stanley and Barbara Hafich Hriczak, she was a graduate of Dunmore High School, class of 1945, and the Penn State School of Beauty Culture in 1946. She enjoyed working for King Wilson, a prominent hairstylist in the 1940s, whose salon was located in the Connell Building in Scranton. She was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore, as well as its Altar and Rosary Society. Her faith impacted her life in many wonderful ways, as she was always devoted to caring for others throughout her life, even serving as a Boy Scout den mother and volunteering at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Reading.
She was a beloved mother, who was always appreciated for her selfless ways. She will be greatly missed by her entire family and countless friends. We are comforted now in knowing that she is at peace and reunited with her Lord and Savior. Her family would like to thank the staff at Abington Manor for all its care and compassion.
Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Thomas and husband, Lt. Glenn Thomas of the Scranton Police Department, Scranton; and her son, Mark Barrett, Dunmore; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Anna Buranich and Julia Hriczak; and brothers, John, Stanley and Michael Hriczak.
