In Loving Memory of Joseph Muracco

Joseph Muracco

Joseph Muracco

Dunmore, PA March 9, 1931 ~ January 20, 2017 Date of Service: January 23, 2017

Joseph F. “Papa” Muracco, 85, of Dunmore, passed peacefully with family by his side at his home where he resided with his wife of 60 years, the former Mary Pasqualichio.

Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Frank “Beansie” and Anna Morano Muracco. He was a member SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore. He honorably served in the U.S. Navy and Air Force, and was a Korean War Veteran and was honorably discharged in 1954. He married the love of his life in 1956 and worked as an engineer for Singer Link Aviation from which he retired from in 1990. Even though he truly never retired, because he kept busy doing everything for his family and friends until he was no longer able. He was his family’s heart!

He was the most, gentle, kind, loving man, we all had ever known. He was always in good spirits, telling jokes, and boasting about how lucky he was to have such a wonderful family. In all actuality we were the lucky ones for being blessed with the best dad, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend we could ever ask for. He meant so much to so many people, and can never be replaced. We would like to thank Dr. Jack Prior, Dr. James McKenna, and the staff at Davida and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the care, compassion, and kindness.

Also surviving are children, Francis Ann Kumar and her husband Dr. Sanjay, Gigi Muracco Hessmiller and her husband William “Billy Baxter”, and Gary Muracco and his wife Linda, a daughter in law, Traci Hoppel Muracco, grandchildren, Angela D’Angelo and her husband Mark, Sara Zavislak and husband Matthew, Becky and Brandon Kumar, Matthew and Michael Muracco, Vanessa and Joey Muracco, and Billy, Jeffery, and Nicole Hessmiller, great grandchildren who were the apple of his eye, Chiara Zavislak and Madden and Preston D’Angelo, sisters, Concetta Cruiser and Dolly Meckwood, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Muracco.

The funeral will be Monday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street, in Dunmore. Interment will take place in the Dunmore Cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday from 5-8PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Center 2010 Adams Avenue Scranton 18509.

My deepest sympathies go out to you, Mary and Family. I look back at all the good memories of many years ago with the "little kids", Frannie, Gigi, Gary & Joey at the dinner table. It was an honor to have known such a great person and I will truly miss him.

I didn't really know the man, but I did meet him a few times years ago at Gigi's. But ANYONE who knows Gigi knows of the great love she had for him, and I am very sorry for your loss. Gigi, you and your entire family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
