Joan L. Cardillo, of Dunmore, passed away early Wednesday in the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, who died in 1988.

Born in Scranton, the daughter of the late Anthony and Lottie Polkowski Lipinski, she was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and a graduate of South Catholic High School.  Before her retirement, she was employed at the Haband Company.

Surviving is a son, Joseph and wife Luanne; and daughters, Janine Melnick and husband Michael, and Natalie Knight and husband Edward.  She was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren, Janel Melnick, Anthony Knight, Stephanie Melnick, Conor Knight, Julianna Cardillo, and Joseph Cardillo; nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

She was preceded in death by sisters Lillian Petsko and Marion Philbin.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Anees  Fogley for his care and compassion, and also to Dr. W. David Fitzpatrick.  Additionally, warm gratitude is extended to all the nurses and staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the kind attention shown to Joan and her family during their times of need.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Chestnut St., Dunmore.  Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

Friends may call at the church from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, preferred memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Dr., Wilkes-Barre, 18702.

Dear Jeannie,Mike, and Girls.
I am very sorry for the loss of your love one.
Jeannie, You have been so stronge and supportive to your mom through this, She knew that with your love and help you gave her the strengh to reach her
Peace with god. You are a great daughter be proud ,
I hope I can care for my mom the way you did your, please take care of yourself your friend chris p
