Dominic T. Surace, 82, of Dunmore passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, April 7, 2015, in Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Margaret Gleick.
Born July 18, 1932, in Carbondale, son of the late Patrick and Catherine Latka Surace, he graduated from the University of Scranton with a degree in engineering and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.Prior to retirement, he had been employed by PennDOT, as well as acting as Lackawanna County engineer and as the executive director of the Lackawanna County River Basin Authority.He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore. An avid golfer, he was also a member of Elk View Country Club.Dominic was a lifelong Penn State fan, and enjoyed his bus trips to their football games, in addition to playing weekly card games with his friends and taking yearly vacations to Bal Harbor, Fla. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed dearly by all.
Also surviving are his three children, Debra Juliano and husband, James, Archbald; Michael Surace and wife, Alice, Montdale; and Michelle Morgan and husband, John, Exeter. His true legacy is his six grandchildren, whom he adored, Shannon Burke, Hannah, Mikeala and Dominic Surace and John Patrick and Jacob Morgan. His grandchildren loved him deeply and will continue to live the lessons he instilled in each of their lives.
Dominic is additionally survived by five brothers and sisters, Kay Williamson and husband, Jim; Dolores Cox and husband, Leonard; Patrick Surace and wife, Marian; Francis Surace and wife, Carol; and Dennis Surace and wife, Michele, all of Carbondale.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marian Duffy.The Surace family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Richard Weinberger, Steve Kravitz, P.A., and the office staff, for their many years of excellent care.
The funeral will be Saturday from Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Friends are asked to go directly to the church the morning of the funeral.
Interment will follow in the Cemetery of Our Mother of Sorrows, Carbondale.Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday.
