Daniel Sherman, 91, of Reading, died Monday morning in the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania. His wife, the former Margaret Gregory, preceded him in death.
Born in Wilkes-Barre and raised in Kingston, son of the late Edward and Mary Spizer Sherman, he was a graduate of Kingston High School and Wilkes College, and served in the Army during World War II. Before retirement, he was employed as a business manager for various companies. He was a member of Ohav Zedek Congregation in Wilkes-Barre as well as the Heritage of Green Hills Veterans Association.
Family and friends meant everything to Dan. He was a devoted husband, son, brother and uncle. "Uncle Duddy" will be deeply missed by his loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He greatly valued his many long friendships.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Sarah Sherman, Ocean, N.J.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Myers; brothers, Leon and Austin Sherman; and a nephew, USMC Sgt. Alan David Sherman, who died in service to his country in Iraq in 2004.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the Anshe Sfard Cemetery, Lower Demunds Road, Dallas, by Rabbi Dovid Saks. There is no shiva.
A gathering for family and friends will be held in the near future at the Heritage of Green Hills in Reading. Details will be forthcoming.
