Sam J. Malia, 68, Dunmore, died Sunday in Moses Taylor Hospital.

He and his wife the former Ingrid Kreiner celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary  July 28th.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Andrew and Columba Magilo Malia.

He was a graduate of Dunmore High School and was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, Dunmore. He served in the U.S. Army and prior to retirement he was employed by RCA/ Thompson Electronics, Dunmore for thirty four years were he served as a union official with the IUE of the AFL-CIO

for thirty years as its president, vice-president secretary and chief stewart.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend known for his quick wit and dry humor.

Also surviving are a son, Sam Malia, Dunmore, a daughter, Diana Montaro and husband Anthony, Dunmore, three grandchildren, Frank, Maria and Anthony Montaro. Two sisters,  Mary Rose Malia and Andrea Malia and companion, Richard Shonk all of Dunmore and a niece Alyssa Shonk.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc. 318 East Drinker St., Dunmore with mass of Christian burial at 9:30 A.M. in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Chestnut St., Dunmore. Interment in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5:00 9:00 P.M.

Ingrid, I never met you but, Sam and I go back to Jr High School. Went to High School together and then joined the Army together. My sincere condolences to you and your children. Also, sister MaryRose. Known the family many years

I never got to meet your dad, but heard much about him. Paula, Zac and I are thinking of you and your mom, brother, Tony and the kids during your time of loss. We are so very sorry.

Diane and family, I am so sorry about your loss. I remember your dad vividly from our younger years. He was a great man.

Thinking of all of you during this time.There will always be some very special memories that we all have shared.Maybe Sammy will buy Penae a new (calculator)in Heaven,LOL.You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
