Thomas E. Garvey, 72, of Dunmore, passed away Friday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Baron. The couple had been married for 38 years.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Edward and Margaret Juba. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School and Johnson College, where he received a degree in carpentry and cabinetmaking. Before retirement, he worked for Old Town Woodworking in Old Forge.
Tom was the previous owner of the former Green Brick Tavern in Scranton and was a member of the Dunmore Sportsman Club and a member of the “Delaware Dilemma.” He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid reader and history buff. He loved spending time with his granddaughter and had a kind heart and was willing to help anyone in need. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Also surviving are daughters, Courtney Garvey, Shannon Garvey and Kaitlyn Garvey, all of Dunmore; a granddaughter, Brooklyn Layre; a brother, Jack Garvey and companion, Monica DeMarco, Dunmore; nieces, nephews and cousins.
There are no public services. Inurnment is private at the convenience of the family in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Dunmore.
