Michael Eugene Petras, 79, Scranton, died Friday at Geisinger-Community Medical Center, Scranton. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Joan Karwaski.
Born in Dunmore, son of the late Michael Petras and the late Anthony and Mary Dzuris Petras Rekus, he was a graduate of Dunmore High School and went on to attend the Institute of Technology and Lycoming College, both in Williamsport. He was extremely proud of his military service, being active in the Navy as well as the Air Force during the Vietnam era, and later underwent specialty training with the U.S. Secret Service in Washington, D.C. where he was assigned to the White House Police. Prior to his local retirement, he was employed as a mental health technician for Allied Services and in the housekeeping department of the Jewish Home.
Surviving is a daughter, Laura Petras; sons Michael and David Petras; siblings Joyce, Debbie and Ron Rekus; grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A private interment will be held in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
