MSG. Leo M. Gingerlowski

January 18, 1960 ~ September 3, 2023 (age 63) 63 Years Old

Obituary

MSG. Leo M. Gingerlowski (Ret.), of Scranton, passed away Sunday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital surrounded by family following a brief battle with cancer.  He is survived by his wife of 41 years, the former Ruth Wheeler.

A lifelong resident of Scranton, Leo was the son of the late Leo and Margaret Balendy Gingerlowski.  He was educated in the Scranton School District until he enlisted into the Army in 1977.  Known as a “super grunt,” Leo served our country for over 32 years in the active army and later with the 109th Infantry Regiment of the Pennsylvania National Guard completing tours to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Middle Eastern region stationed in Iraq.

 

He was employed by Arlington Industries for 29 years.  Leo was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.  He enjoyed working on cars at his uncle’s garage, fishing, and being around friends and family. 

 

Leo was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.

Leo is survived by his 3 sons, Leo of Scranton, Brian and wife Nicole of Mt. Pocono, and Shawn and wife Briana of Clarks Summit; 13 grandchildren; sisters Regina Gingerlowski, Tina Salsavage and husband Ed; brothers Billy and wife Robyn, Timmy and wife Lisa, and Mark and wife Pam; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother John, a sister Patricia, and a granddaughter Annie.

 

A blessing service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in Savino Traditional Funerals and Cremation Care, 157 S. Main Ave., West Scranton. Carl J. Savino, Jr., Supervisor. Interment to follow at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Township.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
