Howard Maus Obituary

Howard (Howie) Maus, 57, moved on from this life unexpectedly Sunday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. A shock to all, we can only hope and pray that he now has solace and peace in a much better place.
Born in Scranton, raised in Dunmore and now resided in Eynon with his wife of 20 years, Julianne (Julie) Kitch-Maus; his beautiful daughters, Mya and Ava Maus, at home; and Desiree Warren and husband, Sam, Berlin, Germany. Also surviving are both parents, Howard T. and Ann Marie Maus, Dunmore; a sister, Kathy Ann Colosimo and husband, Russ, Scranton; a niece, Bryanna Colosimo, Scranton; paternal grandmother, Kathryn Maus, Dunmore; his aunt, Susan Carpinet and uncle Bob, Wyoming; and his aunt Annette (Tootsie) Riccardo, Scranton; many cousins and numerous others, all of whom are grieving this great loss of a beautiful life.
Howard successfully ran Wayne County Ford in Honesdale, owned Maus’ Automotive in Scranton and took part in operations of Greenridge News, Scranton, all family-owned businesses. He will best be remembered as such a hard worker, no matter what job he was doing or what problem he was solving. Eager to help and often over obligating himself, he took great joy in resolving a situation or helping someone out. He was a true Dallas Cowboy fan since his childhood and he stayed as true to the team as he did to his family. He whole-heartedly enjoyed our traditional Rehoboth Beach and island vacations. He loved the beach! Often, it was the only time he would truly relax when away from the area and work. He was so proud of his girls and their achievements and truly adored them. The family dog, Roxy, always greeted him daily with multiple kisses: he referred to her as Daddy’s girl too.
No one can replace this man who left us, life is short and together we will cherish the countless memories made with him. Our family is heartbroken yet thankful for his lack of suffering. We will be forever blessed by his presence in our lives for we are the lucky ones, lucky to have loved him and be loved by him.
Howard was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Howard Maus; and maternal grandparents, James and Ann Bordo; also uncles, Caesar and Bernard Bordo, and Larry Riccardo.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Linda Thomas-Hemak, Mark Hemak, Dr. Jisneth Sheth, Pennsylvania and Archbald Community Responders, Geisinger Community Medical Center and a multitude of friends and family who offered support, help and compassion during this tumultuous time for our family. Please know how truly appreciated you all are and how honored he would be.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Toys for Tots, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the charity of your choice. Howie always donated to worthy causes.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with a Mass at 11 a.m. at Mary, Mother of God Parish, William Street, North Scranton.
