Filmore Rosenstein

May 4, 1924 ~ June 11, 2022 (age 98)


Filmore Rosenstein, 98, of Scranton, died early Saturday in Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore.  He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Jean Isikoff in 2014.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Morris and Rose Plotkin Rosenstein he attended Scranton Central High School and went on to serve on the Burma Road during World War II. He had been a member of both the Beth Shalom Congregation and Penn Monroe Congregation where he had also served as president. He additionally served on the Scranton Jewish Cemetery Association as president of the Penn Monroe section of the Dalton Jewish Cemetery.  Fil was named the Man of the Year at the Jewish Community Center and had enjoyed playing racquetball there well into his 80s. 

He was a beloved husband, father, and grandpa who will be deeply missed.  To him, grandchildren were the best things in life, and Adam and Sara were the true lights of his world. 

Surviving is a son, Howard Rosenstein of Dunmore; a daughter, Shelley Rhodes and husband William of Dickson City; grandson Adam William Rhodes of Kingston; granddaughter Sarah Beth Taylor and husband Brendan of Catonsville, MD; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his sisters Pauline Altman and Charlotte Foerder.

The funeral will be Sunday, June 12th at 11 a.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with services by Rabbi Dovid Saks.  All those attending the service are kindly asked to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status.

Interment to follow in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery. 

Shiva will be observed at the family residence on Sunday evening from 7-9 p.m.; Monday-Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.; and Friday from 2-4 p.m.  All visitors must wear masks, even if vaccinated.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Beth Shalom Congregation, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the Jewish Home of Eastern PA, or to the donor’s favorite charity.
