Dr. Larry Jay Grossinger Obituary

Dr. Larry Jay Grossinger, 81, Scranton, died Sunday morning at home after a long illness.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Alexander and Verna Grossinger, he was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and continued his education at the University of Scranton. In 1971, upon graduation from the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, he returned to Scranton to establish an active podiatry practice.

Dr. Grossinger was deeply committed to his community and faith. A lifelong member of Temple Israel, where his grandfather was a founding member, Larry served on its Board of Directors. He was a founding member of the Rap House, now the Community Intervention Center, and was a recipient of its Fern Smith Tepper Award.  He served as past president of B’nai B’rith Amos Lodge, and was a member of the Jewish Home.  He was additionally a director of Jewish Family Service of Northeast Pennsylvania and served as chairman of the Lackawanna County Commission on Drug and Alcohol Abuse, a role and organization he held in especially high regard.

Larry’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to his daily healthcare aides, along with the staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the exceptional care during his times of need, as well as to his dear friends that visited and supported him.

He is survived by his sister, Judith G. Kozloff of Lafayette Hill, PA; his niece, Lesley Kozloff; his nephew, Daniel Kozloff and wife Alli; and great-nieces, Brynn and Hazel, and a great-nephew, Alexander.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore. Interment will follow in Temple Israel Cemetery in Dunmore. Shiva will be held Wednesday evening from 6-9 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center, 601 Jefferson Avenue in Scranton.
