Catherine Burns

Catherine Burns, 96, of Scranton, passed away on June 25th.

Born in Dunmore on May 23, 1930 to the late Phillip and Mary DePietro Domenick, she was raised in the Roman Catholic faith and was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish in West Scranton. 

Catherine was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cousin.  She loved to cook for family gatherings, to take drives by bus or car, especially on Sunday afternoons with family.  She was an active member of the West Side Senior Center and the Jackson Heights Bingo crew.  She also enjoyed playing dice and cards with her friends. She approached life with great determination, but also had a heart that worried about things and people—even if there was nothing to worry about, she’d worry about that.  Now, she can rest peacefully. 

Surviving is her daughter-in-law, Patricia Barone Rodney; grandchildren, Heather Rodney, Paul Barone (Tracy), Beth Lepold (Joe), and Michael Barone (Neal); great-grandchildren Carl Lepold, Nicholas Lepold (Kelly), the apple of her eye Jennifer Bach (fiancé Mitchell Casper), Sean Burns, and Katelyn Burns; her aunt Jean DePietro; as well as many cousins with whom she was very close. 

She was preceded in death by her son, Philip Rodney, LPN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson St., Scranton. 

Family and friends may pay their respects from 9-9:45 a.m. at the church. 

Interment will follow in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
