Anthony Valvano Obituary

Anthony S. Valvano, 67, of Dunmore, passed away on Sunday, July 5th, at the Geisinger Medical Center in Wilkes Barre with family by his side.  Born in Dunmore, he is the son of the late John and Mary (Gallucci) Valvano.  He was one of six brothers and was cherished by family and friends for his kind and gentle nature.  Anthony provided loving care for his parents during their later years.  He was a beloved son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, godfather and cousin.

Anthony was a lifelong member of Saints Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore.  He served as an altar boy at St. Anthony’s Parish during his early years and was an Eagle Scout.  He was a graduate of Dunmore High School in 1976 and was a member of the Dunmore Bucks 1975 championship football team.  He also attended Keystone College and Penn St. University.  He was an avid fan of Philadelphia’s Eagles football and Phillies baseball teams, enthusiastically celebrating their wins and championship seasons.

Anthony was known for his strong work ethic, reliability and integrity throughout the years.  He worked with three different defense industry contractors, as well as with other machinist and warehouse industry employers.  He liked tinkering with family vehicles and was adept at fixing things, often studying details in great depth to assure successful results.  He was an avid reader and his interests also included gardening, fishing and camping.  Most dear to him through the years, though, were his beloved family and friends, whom he cherished and brightened up their worlds with his beautiful smile.

He is survived by five brothers, Vito G. Valvano, Dunmore; John J. Valvano and wife, Diane, Colorado; Nicholas C. Valvano and wife, Claire, New Jersey; Paul D. Valvano and wife, Michelle, Dunmore; and attorney Guy N. Valvano and wife, Kellie, Dunmore; nephews James, Matthew, and Charles, and nieces Brooke and Madolyn.  He is also survived by an aunt, Christina Lucas, and numerous cousins.

The Valvano family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dunmore Ambulance first responders, Geisinger CMC Emergency Room staff and to Dr. Lakshmi Saladi and staff at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center’s ICU unit for their loving care during Anthony’s final days.

A private graveside burial will be held in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Dunmore.  A ‘Celebration of Anthony’s Life’ will be held on Saturday, July 11th at La Buona Vita, 200 Reilly St., Dunmore from 11:00 to 2:00 PM.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Scranton Public Library, which Anthony frequently visited throughout his life.
