In Remembrance of Virgil S. Swift

On the morning of July 12th, Virgil S. Swift of Glen Mills, PA, formally of Toms River, NJ, passed away peacefully at the age of 80 at the Glen Mills Senior Living Center in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania. Her husband Robert F. Swift, who died in 1977, preceded her in death.
Virgil Swift was born in Scranton, PA. She was the second daughter of the late Stanley and Madelyn (Coyne) Simrell. After graduating from Scranton Technical High School, she married the love of her life and accepted the position as a Navy Officer’s wife traveling from Maryland to Florida while raising two small children. After settling down in Saxton, PA she had another two children and was president of the local Women’s Club. She and Bob moved to Toms River, NJ, where they raised their family and Virgil became an active member of Saint Joseph’s School and Parish. She retired from Stern’s Department store and was an avid bridge player. Most recently she enjoyed visiting and reminiscing with her family, particularly eating out and sharing her stories and wisdom with her grandchildren. You could always find her playing gin rummy with her friends in the Bistro room at Glen Mills Senior Center.
Virgil is survived by her children, Robert Swift, Jr. and wife Donna of Toms River, NJ; Molly and husband Brian Corbett of Thornton, PA; Mary and husband Doug Fantuzzi of Somerset, NJ; and Jim Swift of Toms River, NJ. She is survived by seven loving grandchildren, Sarah Swift, Tim Corbett, Kelsey Corbett, Madelyn Corbett, Bradley Fantuzzi, Glen Fantuzzi, and Alessandra Fantuzzi, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister and best friend, Mardell and her husband Gerard Nallin.
The funeral will be Wednesday, July 16th from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with mass at 11 a.m. in the St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut St., Dunmore. The interment will follow in St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery, Dunmore. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 4-7 p.m.
