Stella M. Dell'Amico

Dunmore, PA August 19, 1919 ~ June 5, 2013 Date of Service: June 10, 2013

On June 5, 2013, Stella M. Dell’Amico, 93, Dunmore, courageously faced the end of her life here on earth.  She died at Geisinger Mountain View Care Center, Scranton, following an illness.  She was the widow of John Dell’Amico, former Executive Director of the American Red Cross, Scranton Chapter, who died September 22, 2000.

Born in Scranton on August 19, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Carmella Samaritano Stivala.  She graduated from Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1936, and was a faithful member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Dunmore.

She was employed at The Children’s Toggery, Scranton.  Later in life she was employed as the Deli Manager at Brunetti’s Supermarket, North Main Avenue, Scranton.  She was responsible for developing Brunetti’s famous pizza rolls.

She was also known for decorative dolls, and a broader range of meticulous sewing and knitting skills.  But all of these abilities were surpassed by her culinary skills.  She took great pride in seeing others enjoy her finished products be they clothing or food.  She saw many of her relatives including grandchildren and great-grandchildren wearing her original designed christening outfits.

She was loved by many because of her winning personality, kindness to all and total devotion to her family.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Alcore Unit at Geisinger Mountain View Care for the excellent care and kindness extended to her.  Also, deepest thanks to Dr. John Diakiw long time family physician and Drs. Kristine McNulty, Timothy Farrell, Laura De Layo and Charles Stivala.

Surviving are a daughter Joan Cianci and husband Joseph, Dunmore; son, Jack Dell’Amico and wife Terry, Sarasota, FL; and son Richard Dell’Amico and Sharol, Boca Raton, FL. Grandchildren, Paul and Heather Cianci, David Cianci, Jessica, Sarah and Emily Dell’Amico.  Great-grandchildren, Jacob, Madilyn, Alec and Leo Cianci.  Also surviving are several beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel and Charles Stivala and three sisters, Ann Hamm, Mary Lazzaro and Frances Brunetti.

The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, 322 Chestnut St., Dunmore.  Viewing to be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the mass.  Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

Arrangements by the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., Dunmore.

Memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, 322 Chestnut St., Dunmore, PA 18512; or to Geisinger Mountain View Care Center, 2309 Stafford Ave., Scranton, PA 18505; or online at
