Sara Morris, 95, of Newton, Mass., formerly of Scranton, Pa., passed away peacefully on Jan. 2, 2018. She was the beloved wife of her late husband of 42 years, Oscar Morris.
Born April 12, 1922, Sara graduated from Scranton Central High School in 1940. Following her marriage in 1947, she and her husband settled in Dunmore, Pa., and then moved to Scranton in 1962, where they raised two sons.
She worked as an office manager at Golnick Automobile Co. for 30 years and then at Yeshiva High School and the Development Corporation for Israel.
She was an active participant and volunteer at Temple Israel Sisterhood of Scranton, JCC Senior Adult Club, the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania, Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary and many other organizations; and, received a number of prominent service awards for her devoted volunteerism, including Woman of the Year.
Sara was predeceased by her parents, Julius and Ethel Golnick; two brothers, I. Leonard Golnick and Manual Golnick, who was killed during the D-Day landings in WWII; and two sisters, Ann Binik and Libby Schoenberg.
Sara was well-loved and respected by all who knew her, and will be remembered for her strong commitment to family, her kindness, her engaging spirit and her devotion to charitable endeavors.
Sara is survived by her two sons, Ellis V. Morris and his wife, Barbara, of Natick, Mass.; and Michael Morris and his wife, Susan, of Framingham, Mass.; loving grandchildren, Caren Pearlman and her husband, Ben, of Needham, Mass.; Julie Morris, of New York City; Scott Morris and his wife, Jennifer, of Needham, Mass.; and Ashley Olivia Morris, of Natick, Mass.; loving great-grandchildren, Lucy and Nate Pearlman and Ava Morris; and her beloved nephew, Elliot Schoenberg, of Clarks Summit, Pa.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with a service at 11 a.m. Friends may visit from 10 to 11 the service. Interment, Dalton Jewish Cemetary, 105 Shoemaker Road, Dalton, PA 18414.
Shiva will be observed at the residences of Ellis Morris and Michael Morris commencing Monday, Jan. 8 through Thursday, Jan. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Donations in memory of Sara Morris to Temple Israel of Scranton, 918 E.
