Salvatore J. “Sam” Lancia, 86, Dunmore, died Monday evening at his home. His wife, the former Anne E. Kolsovsky, died November 6, 2012. They celebrated 59 years of marriage.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Marguerite Tortis Lancia. Sam was a graduate of Johnson School of Technology in carpentry and then became a master carpenter. Prior to retirement he worked as a production manager at Stacor in Scranton. Sam was an U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3635 in Dunmore and also a member of the Sacred Heart. He was very active with the Boy Scout Troop 88 in Dunmore where he received the Silver Beaver Award for Distinguished Service.
Surviving are a son, Sam R. Lancia and his wife Helen “Cookie”, East Stroudsburg, a daughter in law, Helen Lancia, Dunmore, three granddaughters, Ashley Lancia, Dunmore, Sierra Morano and her husband Jayme, Olyphant, and Tiffany Lancia, Dunmore, and a grandson, David Sartor, Dunmore, and two great grandsons, Hunter Lancia and Max Morano, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gary J. Lancia on April 5th and several brothers and sisters.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church in Dunmore. Interment will follow in the Italian-American Cemetery located in the Minooka section of Scranton.
