Ruth Barbara Levy Rubinow lost her chance of becoming a centenarian, leaving us at 98 2/3 years young on Wednesday, December 12, 2018
Babs was born in Scranton ,Pennsylvania on April 10, 1920 to Louis and Sarah Sadie Eber Levy. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers Jesse and Sid, and her beloved husband Harold.
She attended John J Audubon Elementary School, Marywood Seminary and Marywood College, graduating with honors with a degree in English.
She married her life's love, Harold Rubinow, in 1941 and raised three daughters Judi (Nate ) Ostroff, Debby (Raymond) Rosen and Karen Rubinow (Elliot Check).
Babs was a devoted, loving and giving sister, daughter ,mother. grandmother of six and great-grandmother of six.
She was an avid bridge player, knitter, reader, tennis player, golfer, and traveler as well as an excellent cook and baker.
Babs also served as a Girl Scout leader and an officer in both Hadassah and Temple Israel sisterhood in Scranton.
Since moving to York from Largo , Fla in 2003 , she volunteered as a tennis instructor for York Tennis for Kids until the young age of 92! and donated endless hours to York Hospital and Jewish Family Services of York. She was a member of York Health Foundation's 1880 Society.
For the past six years she resided at Country Meadows Leader Heights in York under the watchful eyes of her beloved and dedicated caretakers. Many heartfelt thanks go out to those extended "family" members without whom Babs would never have survived so well for so long. Additional family's bottomless appreciation and gratitude to Debby and Raymond Rosen for selflessly serving as loving primary over-seers of both Bab's & Harold's every need in later years.
Babs will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched with her friendship, love, strength, humor, inner and outer beauty.
May her name be for a blessing.
A grave side service will be held today at 11:30 A.M in Temple Israel Cemetery in Dunmore, Pa. immediately followed by a gathering for friends and family at the Hilton Hotel and Conference Center 100 Adams Ave. Scranton from 12:45 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.. Shiva will be observed at the home of Debby and Raymond Rosen, 115 Maribel Lane, York, Pa 17403. Visitation will be on Friday 2 P.M. until 4 pm , Saturday 7 P.M. until 9 pm and Sunday through Tuesday 2-4 P.M. and 7-9 P.M
