Rose A. Gyomory, 89, of Dunmore, died Saturday afternoon at the Jewish Home of Eastern Pa., Scranton. Her husband, Frank, died Oct. 31, 1997. The couple had been married for 47 years.
Born in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Constantina LaMonica Nicosia and attended Brooklyn public schools and the Central Needle Trade School in New York City. Before retirement, she worked for many years in the local garment industry as a sewing machine operator.
She was a former member of the Altar and Rosary Society of the former St. Casimir's Church, Dunmore, and a member of the ILGWU. She enjoyed aquacise class at the YMCA for 14 years and even sewed her own two-piece swimsuits. She was a storyteller and a wonderful neighbor who enjoyed baking homemade desserts for family, friends and neighbors. There was always a place at her kitchen table for a cup of tea. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Jewish Home for all of their care and compassion.
Surviving are daughters, Christine Alunni and husband, Dave, Jefferson Twp.; Deborah Murphy, Dunmore; and Joyce Petrovsky, Jefferson Twp.; grandchildren, David Alunni and wife, Maureen; Chrissy Snyder and husband, Gary; Cindy Michel and husband, Teddy; Paul Alunni and wife, Nancy; Bob Alunni and wife, Caitlin; Tommy Murphy and wife, Lyndsay; Chris Murphy and companion, Misty Lisk; April Murphy; Jennifer Rose Yasinskas and husband, Joe; Lynette and Nicole Petrovsky; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins, especially a very special cousin, Vincie; and a former son-in-law, John Petrovsky.
She was also preceded in death by her companion of four years, John McMaster; a brother, John Nicosia; sisters, Josephine Gyomory, Angelina Demid, Anna Gyomory and Florence Pressburger; a son-in-law, Tom "Murph' Murphy; and a great-granddaughter, Hope Alunni.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street, Dunmore. Interment, St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.
