Robert D. Pell, 77, of Scranton, died unexpectedly on Monday, July 11, 2016.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Sheldon and Ethel Ziman Pell, Robert was a lifelong resident of the area and active in his community. He attended Blair Academy, was a graduate of Central High School, and received his B.A. from the University of Miami, Florida. He was also a Navy veteran.

He was the former chief executive officer of Brook Manufacturing Co. in Old Forge, a family-owned business which employed over 500 workers in its time. Other career mentions include 30 years as an insurance agent and partner of Pell Associates in downtown Scranton. In his later career, he also functioned as a partner at the popular area clothing store, the Discount Warehouse. There were two main locations in West Scranton and Exeter, Pa.

He had a passion and love for animals throughout his life and even had a dream of becoming a veterinarian. Other activities included a long time membership and dedicated service at the area's German-American Club, the Waldorf Park on East Mountain. He was known by the patrons to be an amazing grill cook and was well liked by those in the community. One of his favorite local spots was Chick's Diner, which he frequented on a daily basis. It was a place where everyone knew and loved him. He was an avid golfer and former member of Glen Oak, Fox Hill and Elmhurst country clubs.

He is survived by his daughter, Marisa L. Pell, of Mount Laurel, N.J.; and a granddaughter, Maine Rose, who is the light of his life. He is also survived by his former wife and friend, Marlene Pell, of Scranton; a nephew, Peter Weinberger; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. James Mezick and wife, Pat.

Friends may call Thursday, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with a service at 6 p.m. by Rabbi Daniel Swartz. Interment will be in Temple Hesed Cemetery, Dunmore, at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions in Robert's memory may be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Twp., PA 18411.

You were an amazing gentleman. I was fortunate to know you. You were passionate about people and you loved your community. I lost a good friend and want, no need to say Good Bye. Rest in Peace you will be missed.
