Orlando “Dandy” Ortiz, 63, of Dunmore, died Tuesday afternoon at home.

Born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, son of the late Domingo Sr. and Luz Maria Berrios Ortiz, he was a graduate of Dunmore High School and retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after 23 years of service.  He also worked as a boiler mechanic and inspector.

Surviving is his daughter, Yoly Ortiz of Ormond Beach, FL; his son, Sandro Berrios of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren; brothers Jose Manuel Ortiz, Luis Alberto Ortiz, Angel Ortiz, twins Jose and Julio Ortiz, and Carlos Ortiz; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his former wife Thelma Ortiz of Ormond Beach, FL.

He was also preceded in death by his brother Domingo Ortiz, Jr.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore. 

Friends and family may pay their respects from noon until the time of service.

Thelma, Sandro, Yoly and the entire family,

My deepest condolences for the family. My heart goes out to all of you during this difficult time. May he rest in peace and may all of you find peace in the good memories from his past.

Rest in Peace Orlando my fellow classmates and good will be missed....glad I saw you up at the Manhattan Jazz Club talking about our open heart sugeries.
