Natalie L. Zyla, a former resident of West Scranton and Clarks Summit, died Monday in the Dunmore Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Harry N. Zyla, in 2007.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Felix and Constance Chicanovitch Norkaitis. She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and after graduation was employed by the General Electric Corp., where she met her future husband. She was a member of St. Ann Basilica, where she was a charter and 25-year member of its choir, and had traveled with the choir to New York to take part in recording their Christmas album. She also served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Ann's as well as being a member of its Christian Mothers Society and its Altar and Rosary Society, and also served on numerous committees for the St. Ann Novena and had a special devotion to St. Ann. During the Novena, she prepared meals for the faithful who traveled to pay tribute to St. Ann.

Natalie's life was devoted to her family, church and helping others any way she could. She enjoyed dancing, especially the polka, cooking Sunday dinners for and serving her specialty desserts to her family, with whom she loved being with. Natalie was a talented seamstress who designed and sewed communion and prom dresses for her daughters. She had been a member of numerous social clubs and had many friends who enjoyed her fun loving ways and sense of humor.

She greeted everyone with a loving and giving smile. She enjoyed her time spent with the friends she made while a resident of St. Mary's Villa.

Her family would like to thank all her care givers, especially Rebecca Noll and Terry Coyer, and the staff of the Dunmore Health Care Center for all the devoted and loving care given to Natalie.

Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Slezak and husband, Robert, Wyoming; and Michele Cali and husband, Frank, Dunmore; six grandchildren, Andrea Slezak Hall and husband, Frederick; Nicholas Cali and wife, Emily; Jason Cali and wife, Sara; Dean Cali, Frank Padula Jr. and wife, Denise; and Christina Padula; a great-granddaughter, Gianna Marie Padula; and she was awaiting the birth of a great-grandson in July; a son-in-law, Frank Padula, Plains Twp.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Padula, in 2014; and by five sisters and four brothers.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Basilica of St. Ann. Interment in Cathedral Cemetery.

Family and friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
