Michelle Sternfeld, a resident of Washington D.C., died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, in her home. She was surrounded by family.

Born on Aug. 18, 1949, daughter of the late Jack and Bessie Resnick Sternfeld, Michelle graduated from Central High School before studying English at American University. She worked as a political consultant in Washington, D.C., Maryland and New Jersey. She was a champion of women's, minority and Jewish causes.

Michelle is survived by two daughters, Gwen Tobert, Washington, D.C.; and Vanessa Tobert, London, England.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Fred Sternfeld.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, by Rabbi Joseph Mendelsohn. Interment in Temple Israel Cemetery, Dunmore.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. No local shiva.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Museum of Jewish History or the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
