Michael J. Farris, Sr., 86, Dunmore, died Thursday at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit in Dunmore while surrounded by his loving family. He and his wife the former Kathryn Derrig would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 16th.

Born in Dunmore on July 15th 1931 he was the son of the late John and Susan Gdovin Farris. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore and prior to retirement he worked at Tobyhanna Army Depot.

He was an antique car enthusiast and loved to cruise around town in his 1929 Model A Ford. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who will be missed by all.

Also surviving are two sons, Michael and his wife Carmel, Dunmore, and Thomas and his wife Angela, Dickson City, three grandchildren, Jessica and Casey Farris, Dunmore, and Kayla Lance, Philadelphia, a brother Joseph and his wife Anne, Fairport, NY, a sister in law, Roseann Farris, Scranton, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Anita Farris-Lance, a son-in-law James Lance, brothers, John and Andrew Farris, a sister, Mary Ann Farris.

The funeral will be Tuesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30AM in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut Street in Dunmore. Interment with full military honors will take place in St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow.

Friends may call Monday from 4pm-7pm.

I have such fond memories of our family picnics at Gouldsboro State Park and the Jeep ride in the mountains.. He was a very loving man and an awesome uncle.. My thoughts and prayers are with Aunt Kay and the entire family..
