Dunmore, PA February 1, 1947 ~ February 11, 2016 Date of Service: February 15, 2016MaryEllen Jones, 69, of Dunmore, died Thursday afternoon at home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous and well fought battle against cancer. She and her husband, Richard A. Jones, were married on November 9, 1968 and would have celebrated 48 years of marriage this fall.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late James and Carmella DePietro Bevilacqua, she was a graduate of Dunmore High School class of 1964 and Empire Beauty School, and for many years operated her own beauty salon. She was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore and its Altar and Rosary Society, as well as being active with their annual Italian festival. She also was a member of the Dunmore Little League Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed going to all her grandsons’ sporting events. Mary Ellen was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and godmother whose first priority was caring for her family, even as she faced a tough battle with her illness, she always put her family first.
In addition to her husband, Richard, she is also survived by her daughter, Lori Murray and husband Chris of Dunmore; grandchildren Christopher and Colby Murray; devoted first cousins Caroline Northup, Catherine Burns, Philip Rodney and Lisa DePietro; her aunt, Jean DePietro of Scranton; goddaughter, Shelby Northup; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dave and Frani Jones of Clarks Summit; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sally and Robbie Robertson of Scranton; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her niece, Kimberly Fraley and several aunts and uncles.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the nurses, staff and aides from Traditional Home Health and Hospice for all of their compassionate care.
The funeral will be Monday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rocco’s Church, Luke Ave. and Kurtz St., Dunmore. Interment to follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Township.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-7 p.m.
