Margaret M. Maines, 77, of the Greenridge section of Scranton, died Thursday morning in the Jewish Home of Northeast Pennsylvania, Scranton. Her husband, the late Gary L., Sr. died October 1, 2007. The couple had been married for 47 years.

Born in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late John and Alice Hughes Heenan and was a graduate of Dunmore High School. Prior to retirement, she worked for many years as a teller at PNC Bank where she was voted Best Bank Teller in Northeast Pa.

After retirement, she enjoyed working at the Viewmont Mall as a pretzel sampler for Auntie Anne’s where she met many people. She enjoyed dining at her favorite restaurant, the Glider Diner in Scranton and she loved to dance, sing and take her dog, Nico for walks. Margaret was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who touched the lives of many people. She was a kind, loving, humble and affectionate woman who will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

The family wishes to thank the Jewish Home and Life Geisinger for all of their care and compassion.

Surviving is a son, Gary, Scranton. Daughters; Judy Coleman and husband Ed, Richmondale; Sharon Valvano and husband Guy, Dunmore. Grandchildren; Nicholas Valvano and wife Linda, Corey Valvano and fiancée Tiffany Demas, Daniel Cusick and Dean Snyder. Great-grandchildren; Gabriella, Matthew, Adam and Danny. Sisters; Regina Weston and Mary Alice Schirg, of Scranton. Her beloved dog, Nico and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday at St. Paul’s Church, Penn Ave. Scranton with Mass at 10:00am. All are welcome to attend.

Interment is private at the convenience of the family.

There are no public calling hours.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, 57 N. Franklin St. Wilkes-Barre, Pa 18701.

Sharon, Judy and Gary,

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of the your Mom. I know how much you all loved her and how much she loved you. My thoughts are with you all.
