Magdalen Raniella, Dunmore, died Saturday night in the Regional Hospital of Scranton.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Alfonso D. “Moon” Raniella, who died January 14, 2013.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Jacob and Marcella Letwinsky Bokun, she attended North Scranton High School, and had worked at the Scranton State Hospital and also as a waitress.  She enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and visiting casinos, and loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish, Dunmore. 

Also surviving are three daughters, Nancy Kollra and her partner Dennis Sovitch, Scranton; Sharon Bruzas and her husband Robert, Dunmore; and Diane DelVecchio and her partner Robert Reed, Scranton; a son, Michael Raniella and his wife Betsy, Dunmore; ten grandchildren, Amy DelVecchio Hackenberg, Tina DelVecchio Jones, Michael DelVecchio, Erik Palmiter, Mary Kollra, Robert Bruzas Jr., Michele Bruzas Chapman, Melissa Raniella, Michael Raniella Jr., and Brian Raniella; twelve great-grandchildren, Matthew and Emily Hackenberg, Julie and Lauren Jones, Dylan and Connor DelVecchio, Haley and Alexis Chapman, Kasey, Jake, Robert John Bruzas, and Luis Hernandez; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter whom she loved very much, Nicole Palmiter in 1999; brothers Albert, Edward, Joseph, and John Bokun; and sisters Eleanor Ambrosini, Anna Apicelle, Mildred Thompson, and Helen Raymond. 

Her family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Regional Hospital in Scranton Surgical Intensive Care Unit for the care and compassion shown to Magdalen.

The funeral will be Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. in St. Rocco Church, Kurtz St., Dunmore.  There will be no public visitation.  All those attending the mass are kindly asked to go directly to the church.  Interment to follow in the Dunmore Cemetery.

We are sorry to hear of your mom's loss. We met her only briefly but did enjoy her stories. She will be missed of that we are sure. Our deepest regrets & prayers.

We are so deeply sorry for your loss! We are thinking and praying for Aunt Madge and you all. Our Mom, Karen, Uncle Moon, and Grandma and Grandpa Ambrosini will all take good care of her in Heaven. If you need anything at all, please let us know.

Just want to say that you will be truly missed, ma. Our celebrations will be sad without you there. I just want to wish you a Happy Easter! Happy Moms Day! Happy Birthday heaven.
