Joseph J. Costanzo, 83, of Dunmore, died Monday afternoon at home. His wife, Betty J. Costanzo, died Sept. 27, 2002.


Born in Dunmore, son of the late Peppino and Carmela Maize Costanzo, he was a graduate of Dunmore High School class of 1949. He was a proud Navy veteran and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Dunmore. Before retirement, he worked at the former Exide as a welder.During his high school years, he was a member of the Dunmore Bucks basketball team and a captain of the football team. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed golfing with his brother Lou, and was a member of the VFW McHugh-Bushweller Post 3474, Dunmore. He was a proud father and grandfather who enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in their sporting events, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family.


Surviving are daughters, Judith Robinson, Throop; and Barbara DiLeo and husband, Michael, Dunmore; a brother, Louis Costanzo and wife, Catherine, Dunmore; grandchildren, Leah Higgins, Seaford, Del.; Daniel Robinson and wife, Jackie; Nicholas Robinson; and Corey Robinson and his wife, Bridget, all of Dunmore; great-grandchildren, Riley, Thomas, Peter and Tessa; several nieces, nephews and cousins.


He was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas Robinson; and brothers, Anthony, Carmen and Luigi Costanzo and Leonard and Sam Noble.


The funeral will be Friday with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Interment, Dunmore Cemetery.Friends may visit from 8:30 until the time of Mass at the church.
