Joseph G. Preate, 56, Old Forge, died unexpectedly after being stricken ill at his hunting cabin in Buckingham Township, Wayne County. He and his wife, the former Mary Olivia Wasco would have celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary on September 2nd.
Born in Scranton, Joe was the son of Rose Marie Esposito Preate of Old Forge and the late Dominic Preate. Joe was a graduate of St. Mary’s School in Old Forge, Scranton Preparatory School Class of 1979 and earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Villanova University Class of 1983. He worked as a Wealth Management Advisor at Merrill Lynch for his career.
He was very involved in different organizations which included being a member of the Villanova University Club of NEPA, the Boys and Girls Club of NEPA where he was to be honored next week, President of Wayne Lackawanna Forest Landowners Association, Board of Directors of the Glenwood Mausoleum, member of UNICO Scranton Chapter, Member of Glen Oak Country Club, member of the National Rifle Association, and President of Wall Street Lodge where he achieved the Forest Stewardship Award through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge.
Joe was a loving and caring husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and friend who will be missed more than words can express. He was in a close group of lifelong friends. If you were a friend of Joe’s he not only liked you, he loved you!
Also surviving are a son Joey Preate, Old Forge, daughters, Ginger Refice, Lake Ariel and Adriane Reilly and her husband Brendan, Lansdale, a granddaughter Austin Rose Reilly, who he loved being her Papa, two sisters, Andrea Preate-Regni, Collegeville, PA, and Suzanne Preate, Syracuse, NY, a brother Donald Preate, New York City, a brother- in-law, John Wasco and his wife Madeline, Jefferson Township, a niece and nephew, Gabriella and Giancarlo Regni, and an Uncle Tony Esposito, Macungie, PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10AM in St. Ann Basilica in Scranton. Interment will take place in the Dunmore Cemetery. All those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4PM-8PM at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
