Joseph C. DiMirco, 83, of Dunmore, died Saturday at the Allied Hospice Center, Scranton. His wife, the former Harriet M. Boose died in 1997.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, son of the late Mark and Eleanor Strong DiMirco, he served with the United States Army in the Korean War and was a survivor of the 109th Field Artillery Battalion, Wilkes-Barre, military troop train accident on Sept. 11, 1950, in Coshocton, Ohio, that claimed the lives of 33 of its members. Following retirement from the Chamberlain Corp., Scranton, he was employed by Wayne County Ford, Honesdale.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, trips to the Atlantic City casinos and fishing and will be dearly missed.
Surviving are a son, Joseph C. DiMirco Jr. and wife, Sarah, Dunmore; a daughter, Linda Chapin and husband, Timothy, Philadelphia; six grandchildren, Ashley Day and husband, Christopher; Savannah Blair and husband, Timothy; Paige Chapin and companion, Mike Serrano; Sidney Chapin, Joseph C. DiMirco III; and Gabrielle Casey and husband, John; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Mark; and a sister, Thelma Ferraro.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore. Interment to follow in Dunmore Cemetery.
