John P. “Jack” Boland, 86, Dunmore, died early Sunday morning in Allied Services Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Scranton. His wife, the former Genet Hryshko, died in 2010.

Born in Scranton, Jack was the son of the late William Patrick and Anna Gilroy Boland. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Korean War. Prior to retirement his jobs included parts/service manager for automotive and truck companies, U-Haul, and Mercy Hospital Maintenance. He then worked after retirement as a courier for the former First Liberty Bank in Olyphant.  

Jack was a member of several organizations including Dunmore Volunteer Fireman, VFW McHugh- Bushweller Post # 3474 in Dunmore, Boy Scout leader with Troop 88 in Dunmore, and participated in the St. Cyril and Methodius Church Choir in Olyphant.

Surviving are a daughter Merianne Bienick and husband Robert, Dunmore, and a son Timothy Boland and his wife Karen, Dunmore, three grandchildren, John, Mary, and Jacqueline Bienick all of Dunmore, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by Catherine Brady, Marguerite Kelly, and a brother, Gerald Boland.

The funeral will be Wednesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut Street in Dunmore. Interment will take place in the Mount Carmel Cemetery in Dunmore.

Friends may call Wednesday morning at the funeral home from 8:30am-10:30am.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jack’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675.
