John G. ‘Jack” Butler, 93, died early Wednesday morning in the Partridge-Tippett Nursing Facility in the Wesley Village Campus in Pittston. He and his wife the former Gayle Henry had resided at the campus since 2001 and they had celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on May 29th.

Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late John R. and Elizabeth Thomas Butler. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1941 and went on to receive an Associate’s Degree in Business from Keystone College. He was drafted in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army until 1946. When Jack returned, he took over the daily operation of the family business, J.R. Butler Trucking. Jack was involved in transportation all his life and was a past president of the Lackawanna Chapter of the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association. He was Past Master of King Solomon Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons and also a member of the St. John’s Lodge in Pittston and was a brother of the fraternity for 70 years.

Also surviving are a daughter, Linda B. Baker and her husband G. Clair, Hagerstown, MD, a son, Jay R. Butler and his wife Martha, Scranton, two grandchildren, Jonathan C. Baker and his wife Helen, Hagerstown, MD, and Emilee G. Butler, Scranton, and a great granddaughter, Addison J. Baker, Hagerstown, MD.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Carl R. Butler.

Friends may call Friday evening from 4pm-7pm in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore. A Masonic service will be held at 7pm. Those wishing to stay are invited to do so.

A private funeral and burial in the Fairview Memorial Park will take place at the convenience of the family.
