Joel Roth Myers, 68, of New York City, NY and Pompano Beach, FL, died Wednesday afternoon in Bellevue Hospital Center in New York City. His beloved wife is the former Gail Liebman.
Born in Mississippi, son of the late Henry H. and Sixtina “Tina” Gressell Myers, Joel was a graduate of Mercersburg Academy, and went on to attend Temple University, later graduating from Keystone College, Wilkes University, and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He had also attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Joel had been employed by the Hartford Insurance Company as a manager and underwriter of its Risk Management Department, served as Vice President of the Berkshire-Hathaway Insurance Company, was the President of Zurich Insurance Company of New York and Illinois also in the Risk Management Department, and owned Joel R. Myers Insurance Consultants. He was a member of numerous religious and civic organizations, and additionally served on the boards of several insurance companies and was both a member and Treasurer of the Board to the Cove Club in Manhattan. Joel was a member of Temple Israel in Scranton and the Battery Park Synagogue in New York City.
In addition to his beloved wife Gail, he is survived by his sons Scott Myers and wife Trudy, Plain City, OH; and Charles French, Orlando, FL; grandchildren Noah, Faith, and Jonah Myers; a sister-in-law Christel Liebman, Laconia, NY; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Joshua Morgan Myers in 2010; his sister Marcia Myers; and an infant brother Charles.
The funeral will be Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with services by Rabbi Joseph Mendelsohn. Interment in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery. Friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Shiva will be observed at the Hilton Hotel, 138 Adams Ave., Scranton, on Sunday from 3-8 p.m. and thereafter at Liberty Terrace, 99 Battery Pl., New York City.
