Joanne Cantarella Ingargiola

Dunmore, PA October 27, 1935 ~ December 6, 2015 Date of Service: December 9, 2015

Joanne Cantarella Ingargiola, 80, of Dunmore, died peacefully Sunday morning, December 6, 2015, at the Dunmore Health Care Center.

She was born in Scranton on October 27, 1935, the daughter of the late Anthony and Antoinette Paolantonio Cantarella of Dunmore.  She graduated from Dunmore High School in 1953 and was employed by Daystrom Industries.  She attended beauty school in both Scranton and New York City and operated her own beauty salon until the birth of her children.

On February 13, 1965, she married Anthony Ingargiola and spent the next years of her life raising her children and making a home for her family.  Together, Joanne and Anthony worked to raise their children as they progressed through their school years and provided them with the love and encouragement that they needed as they became adults.  They celebrated 50 years of marriage in February of this year.

Joanne was a wonderful mother and homemaker who loved to cook for her family and friends.  Anyone who came into her home had to have something to eat.  She enjoyed an active social life as well, shopping and going to lunch with friends and family.  She was a member of the Starlight Club, which gathered together monthly at their homes.   She also enjoyed making ceramics.

Joanne was also a woman of deep faith, attending Mass regularly as a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society.  While her illness in recent years prevented her from attending church and doing many of the things that she loved, she remained steadfast in her faith, praying daily and seeking God’s assistance for those she loved.

Joanne was preceded in death by her grandson, baby Louis Ingargiola, and her brother, baby Louis Cantarella.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Anthony, Dunmore; children, Tony, Dunmore; Louis and his wife Colleen, Dunmore; and Veronica Duffy and her husband John, Archbald; grandchildren, Conor, Hannah, and Victoria Duffy, and Julia, Amelia, and Antonio Ingargiola; her sister, Lucy Verrastro and husband Ralph, Dunmore; and her brother, Canio “Yogi” Cantarella and wife Helen, Dunmore; her sister-in-law, Josephine Paparelli and husband, Frank, Archbald; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral will be Wednesday at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street, Dunmore, at 11 a.m.  Per Joanne’s wishes, there will be no calling hours.  Anyone attending the funeral is asked to go directly to the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to The Grotto Project at SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish, 303 Smith Street, Dunmore, 18512.
