Helen C. Savino, 98, Dunmore died Tuesday morning in Commonwealth Hospice of Northeast PA after an illness. She was the wife of August “Bing” Savino who died in 1987. They had celebrated 49 years of marriage.
Born in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Estock Voytek. She was valedictorian of Dunmore High School Class of 1934 graduating with honors. She worked as a bookkeeper for Somark Glove, a family business, and then later in life for Kane Freight.
She was a faithful parishioner of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish since her marriage in 1938. A devote Catholic, Helen never missed the novenas to St. Ann and St. Anthony.
Helen enjoyed cooking and baking and especially preparing elaborate dinners for her extended family. She was a wonderful mother and cared much for her family. Helen was interested in current events and liked to watch news shows. She could discuss any political topic of the day with vigor. She will be deeply missed.
Surviving are three daughters, Grace Konopatski, Jefferson Twp., Mary Elaine Callahan and Carol Davis, both of Dunmore, three grandchildren, Mary Lynne Williams and her husband Barry, Dunmore, Lori Ann Napolitano and her husband Thomas, Dover, PA, and Elizabeth Ann Frisch and her husband Neil, Media, PA, four great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, three nieces, one nephew, in laws, close friends, and her devoted adopted dog Pumpkin.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Lori Williams and the Staff at Hospice Care of Caregivers and Commonwealth Hospice of Northeast PA, for their kind and loving care.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Infant Steven, John, Michael, and four sisters, Irene Lalus, Anna Luchko, Mary Sasack, and Margaret Kramos, a son-in-law John Konopatski, three nieces and one nephew.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street in Dunmore. Interment will follow the mass in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Dunmore.
