Harriet B. Schectman, 93, of Scranton, died Friday at the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania, surrounded by family. She was the wife of Dr. Joseph Schectman, a marriage that lasted 67 years. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Schectman and her husband, Steve Teich, San Francisco; and her grandsons, Max D. Teich and Samuel A. Teich; and her daughter, Amy Garrison and her husband, Grant Garrison, Sparks, Nev.; and her granddaughters and their spouses, Jill and Robert Pavao, Jodie and Douglas Hurn, and Joelle and Robert Hernandez. She is also survived by her brother, Nathan Brown and his wife, Doris; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Born in Wilkes-Barre, daughter of the late Morris D. Brown and Helen Ehrenreich Brown, Harriet graduated from Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre. She received her B.A. in economics from New York University and was employed by Bloomingdale's. Harriet went on to earn her master's degree from the Marywood Graduate School of Social Work. 

Harriet continued her career for many years as an aging program representative for the Pennsylvania Department of Aging for Lackawanna and adjacent counties. She also served as a planner for the Lackawanna Area Agency on Aging. 

Harriet was a member of Temple Israel and a life member of Temple Israel Sisterhood, Hadassah and the Jewish Home Auxiliary. She served on boards of various civic and religious organizations and upon her retirement continued to volunteer her services.

Shiva will be observed at the home of Nathan and Doris Brown, 207 Pollock Drive, Brooks Estates, Wesley Village, Pittston, today from 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment was at Ohav Zedek Cemetery, Hanover Twp., Pa.
