Grace Summa, a lifelong resident of Dunmore, died early Monday at the Jewish Home of Eastern Pa., where she had been a resident for the last eight years. She was the wife of the late Dominick J. Summa, who died April 14, 1996.
Born in Dunmore, daughter of the late Paul and Carmella LoVallo Rinaldi, she was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore and had once been employed in the local garment industry.
She was devoted to her family and was a loving grandmother who cared for her grandchildren before and after school for many years. She loved baking for her family and made her special Italian dishes for her brothers during the holidays.
Surviving are a son, Dr. Donato Summa and wife, Ann, Dunmore; a daughter, Vita Malinak and husband, Mark, Dunmore; three grandsons, Dr. Christopher Summa and wife, Stacey, New Orleans; Dr. Brian Summa and wife, Dr. Delia Omerbasic, New Orleans; and Jason Summa and wife, Kimberly, California; two granddaughters, Justina Ferguson and husband, Kyle, Dunmore; and Nadia Lucas and husband, Allen, Roaring Brook Twp.; four great-grandchildren, Rocco, Isabella and Remy Summa, New Orleans; and Danny Lucas, Roaring Brook Twp.; sister, Bertha Tomasofsky, also a resident of the Jewish Home in Scranton; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, Donato, William, Leonard, James, Salvatore and Angelo Rinaldi; sisters, Nellie Palko, Elizabeth Marino and Nettie Staffaroni; and daughter-in-law, Bettie Semenza Summa.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the fifth floor of the Jewish Home for all of the kindness and care shown to Grace at her times of need.
Services and interment were privately held. A memorial Mass will be announced at a later date.
