Gertrude T. Sheridan

Dunmore, PA September 7, 1924 ~ March 17, 2015 Date of Service: March 21, 2015

Gertrude T. Sheridan, 90, of Dunmore, died Tuesday morning at the Mountain View Care Center, Scranton. Her husband, Joseph T. Sheridan, died Dec. 24, 1982. The couple had been married for 31 years.

Born in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Julia Kelly Clarke and was a graduate of Dunmore High School and the former ICS International Correspondence Schools, Scranton. She was a member of St. Paul/St. Clare Parish, Scranton, and, before retirement, she worked for the Dunmore School District as a food server in the high school cafeteria.

She was a devoted member and president of the Theresians group and was a member of St. Joseph's Auxiliary for many years and often bragged about being the chairwoman of their annual chicken dinner. Gert was a longtime member of the former Christ the King's quilting club and enjoyed her meetings at Cooper's Restaurant with her two best friends, Marion Clauss and Madeline Marinucci. Her greatest love was her grandchildren and watching them in their concerts, dance recitals, plays and football games. She loved family parties and, ironically, passed away on her favorite holiday, St. Patrick's Day. She also enjoyed taking trips to Boston to see the Red Sox play.

The family wishes to thank the nurses, the kitchen staff, the physical therapy department, but especially the nurse's aides at Mountain View Care Center, who treated their mother with kindness, compassion and love. You will never know how much she loved you.

Surviving are daughters, Mary Ann Kelly and husband, John, Dunmore, with whom she lived with and who took wonderful care of her for many years; and Teresa Marino and husband, Ralph, Dunmore; sons, Robert and wife, Denise, New Hampshire; Don and Rosemary Urban, Dunmore; and Daniel and wife, Stephanie, Trucksville; grandchildren, Courtney, Clarke and Michael Sheridan, Gaby Mongiovi, Andrea and Julia Sheridan, Joseph, Kaitlin and Sarah Kelly, Vanessa Sheridan, Maggie, Caroline and Patrick Marino; great-grandchildren, Isabella Lyle, Anthony Mongiovi and Avery Kelly; a sister-in-law, Peggy Clarke, Boston; a brother-in-law, Thomas Brunton Sr., Dunmore; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Brunton; and brothers, James, Patrick, Thomas and Gerald Clarke. The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Clare's Church, North Washington Avenue, Green Ridge section of Scranton. Interment, St. Patrick's Cemetery, Blakely.

Dear Family and Friends:

The first time I had the great honor to meet Mrs. Sheridan was in 1969, at that time I was astounded by the love and welcoming I felt in her home.

She was and continues to be an inspiration to me and taught me to allow everyone to be whom they are.

Without judgement ever, she showed me how to be and become the person I am today.

She will be loved by me until if I am lucky I join her.

Thank you to all of her children as well as my dear friend Danny for the honor of knowing her.

I Honoring and Love,

Virginia O'Hara

To the Entire Sheridan Family,
Coming from "the neighborhood", I will remember as one of the nicest ladies around. I just remember her being so kind to us when my dad died so long ago. A free chocolate milk or ice cream bar now and then, meant a lot to me. Told me they were going to expire anyway, and I believed her!
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this time.
