Forest T. Kern, Jr., 71, of Dunmore, died Thursday evening at home.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Forest, Sr. and Grace E. Sabatella Kern. He was a 1965 graduate of the former Cathedral High School and he attended the University of Scranton. He was a Navy veteran and served during the Vietnam War. Prior to retirement, he was a forklift operator for a local meatpacking company.

He was an avid reader and a loyal and faithful son and brother. He cared for his mother and uncle during their times of need. He will be sadly missed by his family.

Surviving is a brother, Robert and wife Mary Ellen, Midlothian, VA; a niece, Amy Gordy and husband Reese; and a nephew, Ryan Kern and wife Lauren, all of Richmond, VA; great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Church, Smith St., Dunmore.

Interment, St. Michael’s Cemetery, Dunmore.

There are no public calling hours.

Memorial donations may be sent to SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish, 303 Smith St., Dunmore, PA 18512.

My deepest condolences to his family and friends. I had the pleasure of seeing Forest almost daily on his coffee runs at McDonald's. He was such a sweet man and always quick with a smile and a joke. He will be sorely missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Forest’s passing. We met in kindergarten and always enjoyed seeing each other over the years. May he Rest In Peace.
