Eugene George Sagan, 90, of Dunmore, died Monday morning at home. His wife, the former Agnes Anna Popso, died in 2013. The couple had been married for 59 years.

Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Peter and Helen Serra Sagan and was a graduate of Dunmore High School and attended the University of Scranton. He was an Army veteran and served during the Korean War. Prior to retirement, he worked for the Erie Lackawanna/ Conrail Railroad as a conductor.

He was a devout member of St. Michael the Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church, Dunmore and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the former Naphin Hill Club. In his retirement years, he took pride in his crossing guard duties and was an avid Dunmore Buck’s fan. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and especially enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren’s sporting events. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving are daughters; Maryann Sylvester and husband Neil, Jessup, Suzanne Capoocia, Throop, Lisa Walsh and husband James and Dolores Capoocia and husband Michael, all of Dunmore. Sons; Leo, Throop, Michael and wife Patti, Gaithersburg, MD. And Eugene, Throop. Grandchildren; Sean Joseph Rist and fiancé Rob Flemming, Frank Capoocia and fiancé Erica Summa, Nicole Piercy and husband Michael, Nicolas Capoocia and wife Amy, Rachel and Joseph Capoocia, Kelly and James Walsh, Michelle and Marie Sagan, Ryan Sylvester and wife Melissa and Marla Decker and husband Rob. Great-grandchildren; Nora, Michael, Rob, Jr., Olivia, Rocco, Aidyn and Natalie. Brothers; Peter and wife Shirley, Dalton and Thomas and wife Helen, Dunmore. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by brothers; Theodore, Albert and Richard and a grandson, Kyle Sylvester.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore with Divine Liturgy at 10:00am in St. Michael the Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church, 511 E. Drinker St. Dunmore.

Interment; St. Michael’s Cemetery, Dunmore.

Friends may call Friday from 4-8pm with rosary at 4:00pm and a Parastas at 7:30pm.

It is with sorrow that I put my fingertips to keys. Mainly I remember Gene from my much younger days, although I did occasionally call him during the most recent years. I have nothing but good memories of him. Every one of them is accompanied by a smile. Barb Kostick was kind enough to forward the obituary to me, which I read for the first time in the early morning of April 17th. I would love to be able to connect with you directly. Dear Maryann and family(ies): So sorry to hear od Dad's passing. A life lived to the fullest! Brings back great memories of growing up in Dunmore.
