Enrico A. "Harry" Serine, 75, West Scranton, died suddenly Wednesday at home. He and his wife, the former Virginia A. Scaccia, celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary on Sept. 21.
Born in Scranton, and raised in Dunmore, he was the son of the late James V. and Rose M. Gatto Serine. A proud native of Dunmore, he was a 1958 graduate of Dunmore High School and was a veteran of the Army. He was a graduate of Keystone Junior College, and earned a B.S. in elementary education from Bloomsburg University, a master's in education from Shippensburg University and a doctorate in counselor education from the University of Arkansas.
Before retirement, he had resided in Mansfield and was employed by Mansfield University in numerous administrative positions retiring as the director of academic advising. He also served the university on numerous committees. While at Mansfield University, he was very dedicated to the success of all the students, especially those from the Lackawanna County area, and was an avid supporter of all athletics on both the high school and college level.
His professional memberships include Phi Delta Kappa and the National Association of Academic Advising. His community service included serving as a commissioner for the Pennsylvania Public Television Network, and as a district committeeman and representative of the Tioga County Democratic Executive Committee, and served on various local and state wide panel discussions as a representative of Mansfield University.
He was a member of the Dunmore-Smith Street Social and Civic Club. As an avid supporter of both academics and sports, he had been a Little League coach and a volunteer elementary school tutor.
He was truly a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who brought much joy to the lives of others and will be dearly missed.
Also surviving are a son, Enrico A. Serine Jr. and wife, Kim, Endicott, N.Y.; his twin brother, Salvatore, Ocala, Fla.; a sister, Rose Musti and husband, Robert, Scranton; and a brother James V. Serine Jr. and wife, Marie, Durham, N.C.; two grandchildren, Jourdana and Steven Bedoya; several nieces, nephews, aunts uncles and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, the former Mary Beth Thompson; and by a son, Vincent E. Serine.
The funeral will be Monday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street, Dunmore. Interment with military honors will be in Cathedral Cemetery.
Family and friends may call Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
