Edward Patrick Thorne, 76, of Old Forge, passed away Friday, July 6, following a brief illness.
He was born on Sept. 19, 1941, in Taylor, Pa., and was the son of the late Grace Thorne Lis. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge and was a graduate of Old Forge High School. He served in the United States Army with the 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment / Strategic Air Command in Thule, Greenland, during the height of the Cold War and was awarded the Meritorious Service Award for his dedicated service. Eddie was a patriot and revered his time in the service of his country.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and just celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife, Jeanne. He was a retired tractor trailer driver with APA Transport in Scranton. He was a devoted Nittany Lions fan and enjoyed watching TV and movies with "The Duke." He loved spending time in California with his son Marc, taking walks in the woods and practicing senior yoga taught by his daughter-in-law, Melissa. He loved to spend time outside with his grandson, Joshua; they were inseparable. He loved the fact that his daughter, Joanne, and her family lived next door so he could spend as much time as he could being a good dad, helping her at home and at her office, and watching movies.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Guzzi Thorne, Old Forge; his daughter, Dr. Joanne Thorne-Richberg, Old Forge; son, Marc Thorne, Novato, Calif.; grandson, Joshua Richberg, Old Forge; son-in-law, Josef Richberg, Old Forge; daughter-in-law, Melissa Thorne, Novato, Calif.; and his loving and affectionate Boston terrier, Isabella, and his dog-in-law, Daisy, in California.
He was also preceded in death by his loving brother-in-law, Dominic Guzzi; his beloved aunt, Shirley Quick; and his cousin, the Rev. G. Donald Pantle, S.J., as well as several uncles and cousins.

August A. Ricciardi and Deacon Albert Giacometti. Immediately following mass, the entombment will take place with military honors at Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton.
